Less than $2 eye make-up remover

My face wash does a pretty good job of removing my eye make-up, so even when a little bit of mascara or eye liner is left behind, I don't need much remover to wipe my eyes clean.  After seeing a friend swear by Vaseline Petroleum Jelly (PJ) as an eye make-up remover, I decided to give it a whirl.  I have to tell you, after 6 months of use, I couldn't be happier with the product results and more importantly, the ridiculously cheap price.

I purchased a 1.75 oz "travel-size" jar of Vaseline PJ from Target for less than $2 and I've barely made a dent in it.  I gently rub a little finger dab of PJ around my eyes and wipe clean with one of these:

You may be afraid this product could cause break-outs and you aren't alone.  There are a lot of conflicting opinions on the web about the use of PJ on your skin, so I did some online research.  According to the research-supported beauty product review Web site Beautypedia, "PJ has been around since 1982 and remains one of the safest, most benign cosmetic ingredients ever created, and there’s no research to the contrary."

As I've mentioned before, I have extremely oily and breakout prone skin.  Clearly I'm not lathering PJ all over my cheeks and chin (although some people swear by it as a moisturizer and for wrinkle prevention), but the little bit I use around my eye area has caused me absolutely zero irritation or breakouts.  I love it!

  1. I had no idea you could use petroleum jelly to remove eye makeup! I've always used a dab of face lotion and wiped it off with a wash cloth.

  2. I always keep a small jar of PJ in the house - great for chapped lips in the winter.

Good to know it can also double as a makeup remover :)

  4. I've been using this stuff for years! Are you sure we didn't grow up in the same household?! LOL ANNNNNNNNND my MIL uses it too - her skin is fab. She is 60 and looks at least 10 years younger.

*If you want super soft feet - you can put some on (like you would lotion) at night, put socks on ... and when you wake up, your feet will be super soft! (I know, sleeping with socks is yucky, but so worth it every once in awhile!)

  6. This makes total sense! Vaseline is oily so of course it would make a good eye make-up remover. Good to know, thank you! I have been using Vaseline for years, I buy one of the big jars and keep it on my bathroom counter. I mainly use it on my lips as chapstick.

Another product similar to Vasline is Aquaphor. Have you heard of that? I first heard of it years ago when the tattoo artist who did my tattoo suggested it to help my tattoo heal. Since then, I keep a tube in my purse for anything and everything!
