My weekend and the curious case of the stanky dress

Before I get into my weekend happenings, I need to talk to you about what I'm deeming the "curious case of the stanky dress".  Y'all.  Please consider this a PSA.  I went to Target yesterday to pick up my Tone It Up groceries for the week and naturally, I also bought some shiz I didn't need.   One item I purchased was a dress on clearance.  This morning I was running late per usual so I threw my new dress on and ran out the door.

About 30 seconds into my drive to work I notice this horrendous B.O. smell and sniff the dress. Legit, I could have thrown up right then and there.  I'm almost positive green fumes were and still are permeating off this dress.  And as I type this post, I am engulfed in the stench of stale B.O. to the point of nausea.  Clearly some dirty beezie wore this dress sans deodorant in 100 degree Texas weather, returned it to Target and I was the lucky shopper who bought it.

I don't know if I'm more mad at Target for selling this, the girl for not wearing deodorant or myself for NOT WASHING IT before I wore it.  Let this be a lesson ladies: sniff your clothing before buying.

In happier news, I spent my weekend hawking jewels!  You know, those Stella and Dot ones I sell.

Friday the Fall Stella and Dot line debuted, which I'm sure you saw me tweeting and instagramming about to the point of annoyance.  Sorry friends, but I was excited. I LOVE the new line and will be blogging about what I ordered at some point this week.

My Stella and Dot party Saturday was at my best guy friend's sister's house (say that fast 3 times) who was also having a post-fourth of july BBQ. There was lots of good food and backyards fireworks!  Pics below.

My S&D arm candy at the party.  Belo bangle, devi bangles and renegade cluster + stackable gem ring

I guess since I'm a "city girl", I have never seen legit fireworks set off anywhere but at a city fireworks show.  Who knew you could make your own fireworks show in your backyard if you live in the country?

Kaboom!

Pinterest inspired patriotic strawberries

Roasted marshmallows in the fire pit to make s'mores. So yummy. #toneitupfail

In between the BBQ I consumed on the actual 4th of July and the food I put in my belly at the post-4th of July party, I fell off the Tone It Up wagon last week.  However, I am back on track today. I'm currently snacking on my Greek yogurt and blueberries.

  3. Wow - that is disgusting! I rarely wash clothes before I wear them, I'm always afraid I will ruin them before I even get to wear them! On the bright side it sounds like you had a good weekend! Hopefully the rest of your week will go a little better and you won't have anymore wardrobe malfunctions :)

  4. I hope the stinch comes out!...
My sister in law used to work in a clothing store... I have seen in teh back room.... what they do to clothes.

  5. I'm cracking up!! This would happen to me because I never wash brand new clothes. $#$@^%^#$%

What was on your toneitup grocery list!!?? huh? huh?

  6. That is DAMN unfortunate because the dress is so cute. I would wear it just like you: with a black cardigan. ha! I'm still getting through TIU. Trying to gather inspiration from as many sources as possible. I'm telling you: Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition is where it's at. Nothing makes me want to exercise like that show.

    S'mores and bbq food: YUM.

  7. Haha your stanky dress story cracked me up! Just the way you wanted to start your Monday morning, huh?!

I returned a dress to Target once and the cashier literally sniffed my dress and said "This smells just like perfume. Just so you know, next time I won't let you return a dress after you've worn it." Say whaaa?! First of all Ms. Target lady, I never even wore the dress. Second of all, why the HECK are you sniffing the dress?!

Maybe youre problem could've been avoided if the Target cashier sniffed your dress, too?

    Have a great week : )

  8. I hardly ever wash clothes after I buy them and before I wear them. Will have to keep this in mind next time because that would suck!

  9. I've worked retail and you wouldn't believe the stuff people try to bring back. I had one lady come in on Friday night, buy a shirt and I took off the tags for her and she wore it out of the store. She came back on Sunday and wanted to return the shirt claiming "I never wore it and it didn't come with tags". Please! I know you wore that shirt and went out to the club on Friday night. Don't lie!
PS Hope the smell comes out!

  11. That dress situation is horrible. I can't imagine how sick you must have felt smelling that. Ick.

I love your Stella & Dot stack. I want that gold renegade bracelet. I have the silver one! I used to sell Stella & Dot and loved it. I enjoyed all your instagrams!

  12. Having worked in retail for awhile, I know people return things, or try to, all the time. A lot of times its not worth the argument or hassle. (Even though I was pretty harsh on the 'if the tags are off you can't return it' part of our policy).

I of all people should know to wash things before I wear them....ewwwww

  13. Omg I die about the dress story! That soo grosses me out! I'm so sorry you had to sit in the dress until lunchtime. I would have passed out. I am a weirdo about things like that! Love the new S&D stuff, I still need to buy the renegade. I'm obsessed with it! Thanks for linking up with us doll :)

  14. At least the dress is cute right? That hopefully helps some. Hope the stank came out! And girl back yard fireworks are da bomb! Happy Monday!

  16. Hahahaha! That's terrible and hilarious at the same time.

  17. Soooo gross! Honestly some people smell so bad that they could have simply tried on the dress being super nasty and left that kind of stench. DISGUSTING.

I'm going to have to start eating a lot healthier to drop this baby weight. I'm so depressed.

  18. I.am.rolling.

The curious case of the stanky dress. Stop it right now. I just spit out the ol DC.

So I must ask... did the stench come clean?

    xoxo

  19. Girl, stanky B.O. Boogie clothes have snuck up on me before too! WTH? Mine was from Ross...yep, not too surprising, I know. I mean, isn't a rule that if you live in Texas you put on deodorant morning, noon and night? Hope the smell came out!

  20. I know what I smell like right now (post gym) and imagine that is what your dress smelled like. I almost gagged when I read that on facebook today. I feel so very bad for you.

Those Stella and Dot bracelets are AMAZING! I'm drawn to them... and that smore.

  21. AHahahah, omg!! I worked at Old Navy when i was in highschool & we were never allowed to question why people were returning things if it was within the time frame with a receipt and people would return the most worn things ever. Usually we were good I damaging those out, but every once in a while one would slip through!

  22. So sorry about the dress, ick!! I love your Stella & Dot bracelet stack though so cute :-)

  23. "dirty beezie" I'm so using this in the future. And those s'mores look delicious! I do the Tone It Up workout on youtube, but I don't do the Tone It Up Diet plan because honestly, I love food way too much!

  24. holy nasty, that's terrible about that dress! That dress is so cute too, damn!

I got all those bracelets, plus the blue one you were referring to btw :)

  25. That sucks!! It bad enough when we have a BO day ourselves (let's be honest, we've all rushed out of the house without applying the deodorant at least once) but for it to be someone else's BO? Sick! I am the WORST at washing new clothes before I wear them. I think this will teach me my lesson!

And I seriously need to stock up on Stella & Dot!

Good for you with the diet plan. Cheating is totally OK and you're already back on track. Awesome job!

    Thanks for linking up :)

  26. Totally lol'd about the dress! I'm so sorry, and I'm sure the first thing you did when you got home was take a shower and threw that nastiness in the laundry!

  27. I think I am forever going to wash my clothes after buying them. You think I would have learned my lesson after working at VICTORIA'S SECRET and how we would put panties and bras back on the floor after being returned (obviously the ones that were in okay shape). I always wash underwear before wearing... why not clothes I have no idea. Totally am now. Love the illustration of the green fumes!! LOL

  28. Shame on Target for buying back BO.

    Cute dress though.

  30. You are cracking me up. I mean yes that is gross. But funny. I totally thought the title said SKANKY dress though. Kind of sad it wasnt about that.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh my goodness. Hilarious...but still disgusting. I hope you are bringing it back to Target. That shiz is nasty.

I am so glad I wasn't the only one creeping on random Instagram pages trying to scope out the hoopla unveilings as they happened. I got so many goodies and cant wait for my new fall jewels to arrive this week. Go us!!

  32. Nice! I made those strawberries last year. They were a hit!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Omg about that dress! I also made the patriotic strawberries and linked up. Would love to have you as a follower!

  34. A stanky dress?!?! D: Oh my that sounds terrible. I would have been so mad at that chick for doing that, how gross!!

Looks like you had a great 4th of July and awesome celebrations! Definitely jealous of those patriotic strawberries. :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ewwwwwwww. That is so unfortunate. I would've had to make another run to Target to change again.

Your 4th looked yummy. And I am mega jealous of your fireworks!! Mine were cancelled because of fires.

  36. so gross! i can't believe that happened!!

  37. gorgeous dress ... sorry its so stanky. Did the smell come out? From this point on, I'm doing the "sniff test" on every item of clothing that I buy. I wash everything before I wear it though, I'm very particular about that.

I hate when I go into a dressing room and it smells like feet and nasty BO. I can only imagine what your dress smelled like ...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh my gosh I would be so ticked if that happened to me! I am definitely committing that lesson to my memory, oh I would be unhappy. Ugh yuck.
Sounds like you had a fabulous weekend at least!

  39. This gave me a much needed laugh! Enjoying catching up on your blog... :)

  40. Ohmygosh that is so awful. Who would do that? I would never return something that I had already worn (and sweat in). Ew!

I have extreme OCD about having to wash my clothes before I wear them. It seriously makes me itch and that might be real b/c of all the dyes. Ha ha
