5 chick flicks to drown your single sorrows this V-Day

Valentine's Day is officially one week away, which means it's almost time for my party of one pity fest.  This is the one day a year I can unequivocally, without-a-doubt, tell you that being single sucks. All those tricks in the office get pro-flowers, tacky stuffed animals and chocolate dipped strawberries delivered and I spend my day cursing them in my head.

I know "it's only a day" and every year I tell myself I'm not going to care that the only boy in my life still pees in his pull-up at night, but there is just something about Valentine's Day that makes me feel at one with Bridget Jones.

"This Year's Resolutions: Stop smoking. Stop drinking. Find inner poise. Go to the gym three times a week. Don't flirt with the boss. Reduce thighs. Learn to love thighs. Forget about thighs. Stop making lists."
- Bridget Jones

Although I've contemplated a bath with an electrical appliance to ease the pain, drowning my sorrows in a marathon of chick flicks is a much safer and less drastic alternative.  I'm totally stealing this idea from my doppelganger Lauren Conrad, but here are my top five  favorite chick flicks of all time.

All my single ladies:
What are you planning on doing this Valentines Day?

Anyone care to join me for a Chick Flick marathon?

  2. Hey now, this will be my 4th Valentine's Day with the same guy (who is now my husband) and he's never done any of those things for me for Valentine's Day! (I'm hoping this year will be different...) So I'm with you to some extent! haha

  4. Oh I love ALL of these movies! :) And I eye dagger stab all the women in my office who get flowers too - and I'm married. Jake doesn't like sending flowers to work. He thinks it's pointless. Stupid boy. HAHA

  9. A few of my friends and I have done Anti-Valentines Day. Just go out to the most not romantic restaurant/pub/bar you can and enjoy that you don't have to be dressed up and worrying about making the day perfect!! We did Hooter's one year and it was a blast! Enjoy the day being single...just like every other day we live the single life!

  10. Ughhhhhhhhh is Valentine's Day OVER YET?? This will probably be the worst one yet for obvious reasons. I've totally been boycotting it this year. Screw all the pink and red and candy hearts. Hahaha can you tell I'm bitter? :)

  13. I absolutely, without a doubt, hate this holiday!! Being single on Valentine's Day is the worst. Normally I hit the gym and go home and drown my sorrows in a bottle of wine. This year I'm getting together with some single friends for Chinese take-out and a girly movie.

  16. Ahem.. I have a fiance and I DO NOT get flowers or chocolates delivered to the office. This will be our 3rd Valentine's Day together and we do not do anything. No cards, no flowers, no dinner, no nothing. So THERE! LOL! =p

Either way, love your list, it's probably terrible that I have never seen ANY of those movies..

  20. I have been with the BF for almost 6 years, and I can honestly tell you that I HATE Valentine's Day. It makes me want to barf and I prefer that the BF treat me like a little princess everyday.

  31. I'd be there if I were in town!

And seriously, this holiday is dumb.

And um, Aaron didn't send flowers once, so I was that girl, snarling at the pro flowers that everyone else got [at FFA].

And um, I've been replaced. Aaron announced that he's taking Eva to see Sesame Street Live for V-day. Um. Ok.

  32. Hahah! I love that you refer to those women who get flowers at work as "tricks". Sorry I died laughing when I read that!!!! Good picks with these movies! Try not to be too down next week! And please don't take a bath with an appliance that's still plugged into the wall!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Love all of the movies!!

I hope to ring in my singles awareness day with a bang by sending myself some awesome ass flowers to work, eating a whole box of chocolate & going into a chocolate coma, getting wine wasted and hopefully top it all off by sending some drunken text messages to all of my ex's.

    Is that not the norm?

  39. These are some of my favorite movies and quotes! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Pretty Woman, The Notebook, and Father of the Bride!!!!!

Can't wait to see The Vow with Channing Tatum!! Love him!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Love this post! Father of the Bride is one of my all time favorite movies!! When I was single my BFF and I would give gifts just like we were a couple. Not flowers but one year she gave me some cute PJ's and a CD. We liked VDay even when we were single so we had to exchange gifts! We would even go out to dinner that night. People probably thought we were a couple but oh well!! :-) Although I moved into a new place (while BFF was on a date with her BF) on Vday one year and was by myself that night and the dude working the drive-thru at KFC (because yes I did drown my sorrows in fried chicken) actually said something about be being alone on Valentines. WHAT!! Pretty sure I cried after that but I did eat my KFC! :-)

  41. If it makes you feel better my husband doesn't believe in flowers because "they just die". How romantic right? So everyone else gets things sent to them but not me... So it's not like "You're single, it's cool", it's like "That girl's husband must not love her very much" haha.

I mean, at least I don't have to clean the dead flowers out of the vase a few days later?? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  42. UMMMM I be there. probably drowning my sorrows in wine, duh. And probably completely flowerless, despite my office v-day bet. HAHA
