3 hair products I can't believe I ever lived without

Ever heard of the women's magazine Allure's Best of Beauty Awards?  If you have not, then you should know that according to Wikipedia (Wikipedia is all-knowing), Allure began its "Best of Beauty" awards program 14 years ago to help readers choose among the vast array of makeup, skin-care, and hair-care products on the market.

If I'm ever looking for new products to try, I go online to check-out the Best of Beauty winners, make a list and buy.  That's how this happened during a recent trip to Target:

I'll talk about the Almay make-up eraser sticks and Boots No. 7 Beauty Serum in a separate post because today's post is all about hair.

The Dove Nourishing Oil Care Detangler, which was actually brought to my attention via my bloggie bestie Raven (not the Best of Beauty), the John Frieda 3-Day straight semi-permanent styling spray and the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner have all been added to my hair care routine. It's true love.

I'm going to talk about these products in the order in which I use them, so first up is the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner.  This stuff is priced right.  Less than $5!  It's a thick cream and it smells so fruity and yummy.

You shampoo as usual, put in the Aussie conditioner and let it sit in your hair for at least 3 minutes while you continue showering.  It made my hair reallllly soft and I use it a few times a week now.  You can read it's Best of Beauty review here.

Next up is the Dove spray.  After towel drying your hair, shake the bottle up to blend the oils and spray generously. For me, that means a lot of sprays.  I have a TON of hair and it's ridiculously long and wavy so it tangles like nobody's business.  Legit, it takes me upwards of 20 minutes to brush my hair. I absolutely hate brushing my hair after a shower. Woe is me.

After coating your hair with as many sprays as you personally need, comb through. I promise it will not make your hair oily.  I have enough oils in my hair so the last thing I need is more.  The argan oil and almond oil give your hair a great shine and make it much easier to brush through.

As with all Dove beauty products, this is also priced right at around $5. As if I'd be blogging about something that wasn't budget-friendly ... pshhh

Last, but not least, we have the John Frieda Frizz-Ease 3-Day Straight which might be my favorite of the three.  It's a spray with heat protection that blocks frizz out as you blow dry/flat iron. Seriously it works wonders. I have used this several times now and my hair is easier to blow dry straight and actually stays straight, smooth and shiny for at least a few days. Read the Best of Beauty review here.

The Best of Beauty Awards do not lie.  Here is my hair the night before I left for Charleston all natural aka ratty (Reese insisted he brush my hair like Repunzel) and then after using all 3 of these products. Sorry I look creepy and it's not the best picture of my hair, but you get the idea.

  4. That Dove stuff is Heaven in a spray bottle! I love it!
I use a heat protectant from John Frieda, but I may have to give the 3 day straight a try! I saw it when I was at ulta the other day but decided against it...However, if the bargain blonde says get it...I may be going back to buy it. haha

  5. What a great post! Although I have thin, fine, stick-straight hair, my 5-year old daughter's hair seems to be very much like yours. I can't wait to try these products out on her :)

  10. Oh I see. So now I'm getting referred to as "blogger Raven" instead of "my Bestie" or some rendition of the word.

    I? Am so offended.

  12. I get lots o frizzies in the humidity here in Texas, so I ALWAYS use It's a Ten...like, religiously. I love it! Smells good, conditions, protects from the heat, and tames the frizzies! I think your hair could be standing on end and you would still be gorgeous, though!!!

  19. i'm definitely going to give the aussie 3 minute miracle a try! i have fine naturally straight hair so i only condition about twice a week max & that sounds like it will be perfect for the job!

PS...I know you're in Dallas, but I will be in Houston sometime this fall! I thought I would share because I've never been to Texas (with the exception of DFW airport for a layover) and I'm sooo excited!! :) Let me know if you know of anything cool to do in the Houston area!

  25. I love love the dove spray!!! It works great! I need to try these other 2 products! If you use the 3 day straight when you blowout will your hair still hold curling iron/hot roller curls? I have super curly hair naturally so I blow out my hair but I love to curl it to give it more bounce after I blow it out.

  26. Totally agree with the aussie. I love that coconut smell.

I already use an argan oil, but it's stupid expensive. I'm trying the dove one asap.

  28. I looked for the Dove spray at CVS recently cause your girl Raven talked about how awesome it is, but they didn't have it! Guess I gotta make yet another trip to Target. I put very little in my hair. I use a wee bit of shine serum + nourishing spray conditioner after I'm done drying/curling/whatever, but that's it. Sometimes I use nothing.

I HATE drying my hair because it takes forever. So sad I can't afford Brazilian blowouts anymore.

Can't wait to get my paws on these products. Thanks, as always, for the awesome suggestions!

  29. Love Love Love this post. I have curly hair too but prefer to blow it out. I love John Freida's hair serum. LOOOOVE.

I am currently doing my favorite makeup items, so this ties right in with that! You should check it out.

  32. Guess who bought #1 and #3 today...and would have bought #2 if they weren't out of it at the store? That would be me :)

I'm putting them to the test tomorrow.

  33. I love that John Freda stuff! I actually use biosilk serum if I straighten my hair. And you're right we do have the same type of hair, I'm not going to lie I'm loving your messy curls!!! But your hair looks beautiful straight too, love the color!

  34. I have a similar Dove product, but it's in a pump. I couldn't find the one Raven mentioned. I've got to hunt it down. I also really need the Frizz-Ease stuff. I have so many teeny tiny flyaways. It drives me insane!

  35. Aussie 3MM is something that will always be in my shower from now on to eternity! I've bought other, more expensive hair masks & I keep coming back to the 3MM. It's amazing!

I'm definitely going to pick up the Dove & John Frieda sprays. This girl always needs to try new products. ;)

Can't wait to hear what you think of the Almay Eraser Sticks. I LOVE THEM!! Especially when doing a winged liner look.

    Have a great weekend!

  42. LOVE LOVE LOVE the conditioner and hair detangler (thanks, Raven!). I may have to try the John Freida spray... I am almost out of my expensive salon cream and need something to protect my hair when I blow dry.

Do you have any suggestions on Moroccan oil, etc? My hair was basically TRIPLE processed Thurs night and I need something to protect it!

    Thanks, Lady :)

  43. I bought the first two of these thanks to you (um, what would I do without my BB recommendations?!?!) and I love them. I used them both in the same day (showered w/the deep conditioner and then used the Dove spray) so I don't know which one of them is responsible for making my hair SO SILKY . . . but today I'm gonna shower and just use the Dove spray to test it out. LOVE THEM!
