I wasn't going to blog today, but I'm a little outraged so I figured here is as good of place as any to vent.
Apparently some "pro-anorexic" website Skinny Gossip (I'm not bothering linking to the site because I refuse to drive traffic there) is calling supermodel Kate Upton "fat". If this is what we are considering "fat" these days, then someone rush me to the nearest lipo facility because I need the works.
I mean, home girl was recently on the cover of SI's Swimsuit Edition. She looks like a real whale out there in the water.
According to UsMagazine.com article, the koo koo for coa coa puffs blogger who runs Skinny Gossip wrote the following:
"She looks like a squishy brick. Is this what American women are 'striving' for now? The lazy, lardy look?"
Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor. If this bitch wants to see fat, she can come see me naked any day of the week.
This is sick and appalling. I remember when I was in middle school I thought I was legit obese because of dumb stuff like this in the media. I wore children's size clothing and worked out 20+ hours a week at gymnastics practice. I clearly wasn't fat.
I obviously believe in freedom of speech, but not in this instance. Sites that promote women starving themselves to death should be shut down.
And on that note, I'll leave you with pictures of HEALTHY, normal, "curvy" celebrities who have bangin bodies. I'll take a big ass and boobs any day over a bag of bones. I'm pretty sure most men would agree with me. Hash tag real talk.

I am curvy and athletic. I'll never be stick skinny, and I don't know that I'd want to be! I know for a fact that my husband (and other real men) love curves!

It's funny to me that if people lose weight, no one can pay them any attentin but if you gain an OUNCE people are there pointing fingers! soooo annoying! Kate Upton is SMOKING hot & far from 'fat'! Whatever happened to the Marilyn Monroe size women? I think that's TRUE beauty!!

ReplyDeleteDefinitely agree about those sites being taken down. In no way is she fat. Still you closing comments hurt my feelings a little. I'm naturally a very skinny build without many curves and I've always been insecure about it. I eat plenty and I don't think I'm fat--in fact I've tried really hard to gain a little bit of weight. Still the "bag of bones" comment hurts. I think your pictures weren't saying that all body types were beautiful, rather you just chose a different body type as the "ideal." Unfortunately, even though I'm at a healthy weight that is still not mine.
ReplyDeleteI work in mental health and I know that people who are anorexic see themselves as fat and that is a horrible distortion, but they don't make fun of others because of it. I call theses the trendy anorexics who do it for fun and not because they are really sick.

ReplyDelete@ Chelsea girl- I think you missed the whole point of this article... she wasn't talking about naturally thin girls, she is talking about girls who starve themselves and warp body image for young girls and make them think that not eating and being rail thin by force is "pretty". I certainly don't think she was trying to hurt anyone's feelings.

Most of those pictures are Photoshopped of skinny models to make them even thinner. It's disgusting. She's not fat at all. The whole "thinspiration" craze is stupid. But, I'd rather have some "fitspo" and be encouraged to work out and be healthy..

ReplyDeleteI agree with you 200%! It makes me sad that 12-15 year old girls will read things like this and immediately think they are fat or ugly. I admit, when I was in middle school, I thought I was fat too and I (similar to you) was clearly not. I was a competitive ballet dancer.
I love and respect all of these celebrities that you posted photos of because they have real bodies, real curves. And they're all beautiful women!

I hadn't read this yet, I'm behind on my blog reader this week. But when you linked it in your Confession post I had to see what it was about. This just makes me sad. Kate Upton is gorgeous and I think it's crazy that people are so obsessed with being skinny. Skinny is gross, healthy is hot! And healthy comes in different sizes. Miranda Lambert is one of my very favorite examples of a celebrity with a real body. Love her and her attitude about it!
