I love how every family has their own traditions and it is so interesting to me to see how people all over the U.S. (and the world even) celebrate Thanksgiving with their loved ones. For instance, this is my families Thanksgiving spread from last year:

Do you have several Thanksgiving celebrations you have to attend? Just one for moi!
What are your families signature dishes? We have mostly traditional dishes like turkey, giblet gravy, mashed potatoes, cornbread stuffing, rolls, green beans and deviled eggs (yuck) and then things like pea salad (my mom's fave) and cranberry salad (my cousins fave). Personally, I look forward to the stuffing, turkey and gravy the most. Get in my belly ...

Do you all bring a dish or does one person cook it all? My Mom and Aunt assist, but for the most part, my Grandma cooks it all. Thanks Grandma!
What are YOUR favorite things you look forward to on Turkey Day? Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade! I really hope one year I can go to the actual parade. Maybe I should start a bucket list.

My family gets in town today so I'm going on a mini bloggy break until next week. It'll be tough, but y'all will pull through without me. I just know you will.
Enjoy your time with your friends and family and remember to be thankful for what you have in your life. I know it's easy to always want the latest and greatest (guilty!), but let's take this time to be thankful for what we already have (like our health, a roof over our head and amazing readers like you).

ReplyDeleteWhen I saw that first picture my eyes were like OMG I NEED THAT! That's amazing. Well...for us this year (Billy and I rotate years with our families) we are going to my Dad's side of the family (which is huge and like 60-70 people are there.) We all go around noon and then eat around 4pm. Each person brings a small side dish that is usually the same every year so everyone knows what they are bringing. We have an annual euchre tournament that all my family bets on and puts money in a pot for! We usually head home around midnight if we aren't passed out from beer/food by then.

ReplyDeleteAll of our Thanksgiving's are at lunch and are all cooked by the adults... parents and grandmothers... no young adults help... I guess they don't trust us yet. But I'm not complaining one bit. I mean who doesn't like to just show up and eat a most delish meal without lifting a finger???
We usually have turkey (some are fried), ham, dressing, gravy, butter beans, mac n cheese, sweet potato casserole etc etc....
i was so jealous when i first thought that was your family's thanksgiving spread!!!! so gorgeous!

Um, I love this post! I love hearing about people's traditions and even little things like when they eat! We usually eat around 3 or 4ish I'd say. So, I guess that's an early dinner.
ReplyDeleteThe Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is an absolute MUST for me, even if I just have it on in the background! But, everything stops when Santa comes on at the end. Stuffing is my favorite part of Thanksgiving {as far as the food goes} Oh, and the apple cider too! I hope your Thanksgiving is amazing!! Enjoy the time with your family! :)

ReplyDeleteWhat time do you eat? Do you eat around lunch? A late lunch? Dinner time? At my parents' house we eat a late lunch/early dinner around 3-4pm. Then we head over the hubster's family's house and eat AGAIN around 6-7pm.
Do you have several Thanksgiving celebrations you have to attend? Dos! We are STUFFED by the end of the night!

ReplyDeleteOne Thanksgiving celebration for me! Maybe in the future it will be more, but this year my person and I are just going to my family's house.
Most of the time one person cooks. Whoever hosts, cooks.
My older cousin (she's more like an aunt) and I are the bakers in the family, so we bring the desserts. She is big into cookies/fudge; I'm more the brownies, cakes & pies maven.
I mostly look forward to watching football and celebrating the day with good food, good drinks and family members, and midnight shopping!!

ReplyDeleteWe eat around 3:30! My sister and I are cooking it all for my momma this year. It's been a emotional year especially for her so my sister and I are stepping in and taking over her duties! I'm sure she will closely monitor us ;)

ReplyDeleteWe also eat a late lunch. Super casual. Then we watch football. My fav part of the meal is green beans. It sounds gross, but my mom fries them with bacon, chopped onions, garlic, and vinegar until they are brown. So good!

Ours falls somewhere in between a late lunch and an early dinner. It really just depends. We're taking over for Grandma this year (at least we're gonna try!) so it should be interesting. I am currently waiting for two of the six pies I'm making for tomorrow to finish baking!! Have a great Thanksgiving!!!

ReplyDeleteSo, we basically wake up, drink a lil' Bailey's and coffee while watching the parade ...
Then head over for lunch around 1 ...
I always contribute! Pumpkin cheesecake and buttermilk pie ... homemade, from scratcheroo.
Then we watch the Cowboys (lose) and eat some more ...
Roll into bed early cuz we're so stuffed.

ReplyDeleteTo be honest I really don't enoy the holiays that much...75% of my family i SUPER conservative so we just sit around and don't talk, don't drink, etc etc...its so awkward. We did Thnksgiving dinner this year and usually we have 50 people come, its nuts.
